We arrived in New York last Saturday after staying an extra night in London because of blizzard Nemo. For me, coming from the Southern Hemisphere, it is very exciting seeing all the snow and it all looks so beautiful, sort of magical and unreal. The air is so clear and the snow lying on the side of the road is still white and hasn’t turned to brown mush yet. It is very picturesque. There are snow plows everywhere you look pushing snow away and spraying salt onto the roads. It’s amazing how many of them there ae in this city. It is also freezing!! It has warmed up a bit now but it was -8 when we ventured out to look at Central Park in the morning. It is also the quietest I have ever seen New York, I think a lot of people have taken advantage of the weekend and just stayed home and warm!
A small aside on the subject of travel, why does jet lag always wake you up at three in the morning no matter where you are? It’s the witching hour for travelers! You can go east or west or north or south and yet you always wake up at three. It kills me and as I get older it takes me longer and longer to recover from it.
Burberry are full of the brightest mirror metallic trench coats, bags and shoes. The colours are amazing and make such a beautiful display. A lot of other labels have also done lovely metallic shoes and clutches and shiny satins and there were a few people showing coloured metallics at Fall fashion week as well so it looks like they will be with us for a while still.
There was a new sort of boxy sixties silhouette that I saw a lot in London, especially in tops, jackets and coats and it is also visible in some of the Fall collections. For me personally it is not a good shape as there is no waist and the tops end at the largest part of my body,my hips and I look like a little barrel but if you are nice and slim it would be a flattering silhouette. I have found a few examples of it as I think it’s going to be around a lot.
Of all the Harlem Shake videos being made at the moment, I like this one the most, they are all great fun but this one is different. I don’t know if it will be as big as Psy’s Gangham Style but it’s had ten million hits already.[youtube.com/watch?v=QkNrSpqUr-E]
