After my daughter raved about Man of Steel a few weeks ago, she saw it in France  , I decided to go this weekend. I loved it although I found the fight scenes a bit long although that is what Zac Snyder is known for and is how I felt about The Dark Knight fight scenes as well. The general consensus on Henry Cavill who plays Superman, with which I agree whole hardheartedly , is that the man does have very serious abs and cheek bones. It’s worth going just to see those! The thing that interested me though was what they did to Diane Lane who played Superman’s earth mother. She is a beautiful woman who at 48 usually looks younger than she is.

I wasn’t able to find any large images of Diane Lane in the role of Superman’s mother and it’s difficult to see from the small ones but I found the way they aged her for the film fascinating. All they had to do was leave her hair long and listless, pull grey streaks through it, take off her make up and put her into very plain clothes that you would expect a hard working farmer’s wife from the mid west to wear and she looked very plain and 60. It really reinforces grooming as the best way to looking younger. We all know that but sometimes it’s just too much effort to get your hair tinted and trimmed and to put on make up and decent clothes but it’s amazing the difference it makes and how many years it can take off you.

While on the subject of how your hair, wardrobe and particularly make up can make you look younger I came across this you tube tutorial by Lisa Eldridge that I thought had some good make up advice for mature woman. I love eye make up, I always buy it, I never use it and my daughters always steal it so I thought this tutorial might be a help. It’s amazing what you can find on you tube, anything from putting in invisible zips to cooking to computer issues, absolutely anything. It’s also amazing how young people use it as a sort of encyclopedia come visual aid to anything they need to know about. I need to get into that! The lovely lady Lisa uses in the tutorial is older than me but I think the concepts she uses particularly for eyes are useful for anyone over 50.

I know that the sales that are on at the moment are great and if you are looking for something specific like a suitcase, new bed, kettle etc it’s a fantastic opportunity to buy it now but from a fashion point of view it’s a bit disappointing that there is not a lot of new merchandise in the stores. Jigsaw http://www.jigsaw-online.com/ have this beautiful salmon pink colour in now. It’s a lovely colour that I think flatters everyone regardless of your skin tone and hair colour.

As I mentioned last week I am unsure about which direction, if any, I should go with this blog. I thought I would just do posts of things that occurred to me and might be of interest while I decided. This is one of those posts. I am going away with my husband and son for a week and will post anything interesting that I find while we are away next week. Thank you for bearing with me!
