I found this Dove soap advert interesting and as it’s gone viral and had 55 million views on youtube, I am obviously not alone.
This is what the manufacturers said about making the advert:
‘Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.’
It is interesting and a bit sad, that woman are keen to point out what they perceive as their flaws rather than their strengths. None of the woman described their good features, it was strangers who had just met them who pointed out attractive features when describing them. Is it politeness that stops someone from saying she has a huge jaw or stringy hair or does a stranger genuinely only notice the good when they meet someone. They have no need to be critical or analytical, they just take you at face value.
It goes without saying that we are our own worst critics, we’ve been hearing it for years but this experiment really does prove it. It also goes without saying that we need to be more confident about who we are and what we look like. I have wondered for instance, about a woman who might be in a relationship or have a job that is not the right one for her but if she has no confidence and can’t see her worth maybe that leads to thinking that she doesn’t deserve the best possible relationship or job and she settles for something that is not quite right. People with confidence in themselves expect good things to come to them and interestingly enough, they invariably do.
I have always loved enormous bracelets, the bigger the better but at the moment I am absolutely obsessed with them! I have gone off necklaces for a bit and all I want are lots of huge bracelets.
I have been wearing these carved wooden bracelets that were made in a shelter for abused woman in Swaziland. They are very light although they don’t look it and I love the sounds they make when they clunk together!
I had a wooden bracelet from a craft store as well as a few old plastic bracelets that I don’t wear anymore so I decided to cover them in fabric and decorate them with buttons and an old pair of broken earrings that were lying around.
I cut the fabric into strips, coated it in gel medium and wound them around the bracelet. When that is dry you give it a few coats of varnish and then attach the decorations with gel medium.
